Nepal Police on Thursday made public seven South African women in Kathmandu who were nabbed along with 51 kilograms of heroin worth more than Rs 1 billion.

Organising a news conference, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Nepal Police said the seven women were arrested from different hotels of Thamel with the largest amount of banned drugs so far.

Superintendent of Police and Chief of NCB Jiban Kumar Shrestha said those arrestees are Sibisi Thandekile, 29, Muriel Qedukwazi Thembeni Nsamba, 46, Tshabalala Khanyisile Yvonne, 39, Rosinah Nonqele Jantjie, 36, Mahlako Maureen Mathiba, 29, Moroesi Suzan Kofu, 37, and 30-year-old Marlese Badenhorst. All the accused were arrested from different hotels on different dates for possessing heroin.

Of them, Moroesi Suzan Kofu had arrived Nepal via Doha of Qatar in a flight of Qatar Airways while six others had come via Dubai of UAE in Fly Dubai.

According to SP Shrestha, the South African women could have brought the drug to smuggle to India as there are no users of such kind of drug in Nepal.
