JAKARTA, Five policemen and one prisoner were killed in a riot on Wednesday involving the policemen and militant prisoners at a jail on the outskirt of Indonesia's capital, police spokesman said.
National police spokesman Brigadier General Muhammad Iqbal said that one police personnel remain being taken hostage by the militant prisoners.
"The incident leaves five of our police fellows dead. We have to shot dead one terrorist who was resisting," Iqbal told reporters.
The riot started breaking out Tuesday night in one of the prison blocks but the situation now is under control and the police are undertaking negotiation with the prisoners, said Iqbal.
"We are conducting a persuasive approach to the prisoners because they are convicted in terrorist case and we have to do it with a special strategy," he said.
The incident was triggered by the objection of prisoners to the prison's authorities making checks on food being brought into them, the spokesman said.
Security around the prison is boosted and the outlookers are not allowed to close to the entrance, according to the police
