BANGKOK, Six Myanmar migrant workers were killed and 17 others injured when a double-decker they were travelling in crashed in an accident in Tak province, near Thailand-Myanmar border today.
Today's early morning accident was the second fatal mishap involving workers from Myanmar, following last month tragedy in Nakhon Ratchasima where 20 of them were killed when their double-decker bus was engulfed in flames following an accident.
According to the local media here today, the accident happened at Highway 12 (Tak-Mae Sot) at Ban Mae Ta when the bus with 52 passengers onboard was heading to a factory in Chachoengsao province in south central Thailand.
The bus driver who survived the accident told local emergency officials that he failed to apply the brakes as the bus was descending a steep section of the highway, causing the vehicle to crash into a concrete ditch and overturned.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Between four to five million migrant workers especially from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia were currently working in Thailand.
