Student council organizations at major universities in Seoul are calling for a through investigation into the influence-peddling scandal surrounding President Park Geun-hye's longtime confidant Choi Soon-sil.
Some student associations have also called for the resignation of government officials responsible for the scandal, adding that President Park is no exception.
The student council of Ewha Womans University held an event on campus on Wednesday, saying that the current state of affairs is rocked due to the scandal. The students at the university, where Choi's daughter Jeong Yoo-ra is suspected to have received preferable treatment, demanded prosecutors get to the bottom of the scandal.
The student council of Sogang University, Park's alma mater, said they were shocked by the reality exposed by the so-called Choi Soon-sil Gate and called on the president not to taint the name of their school.
The student council of Seoul National University said although there isn't much time remaining until the end of the Park administration, the future of the country will last a long time. They asserted that Park is no longer qualified to continue her duty as the president.
Other schools, including Kyung Hee, Chung-Ang and Pusan National, have also joined the student movement.
