Four women from Sunsari has been elected unopposed as Central Committee Member (CCM) of the CPN-UML. They were elected in the close-door session of 10th National Congress of CPN (UML) currently underway in Chitwan.
Bhagawati Chaudhary, Laxmi Gautam, Manju Bhandari and Amrita Subba are the four women CCM from Sunsari. Chaudhary and Gautam were elected unopposed from Women's Open category where as Bhandari was elected unopposed from Province 1 Woman category and Subba from Indigenous Woman category.
The number of woman CCM has outnumbered the male CCMs representing Sunsari in the main opposition party. There are just three male CCMs from the district namely Bhim Acharya, Jagadish Kuysiyait and Taiyab Husain.
Acharya is from Open CCM category and Kusiyait and Hussain are from Madhesi Open and Muslim category respectively.
Bhim Acharya, however, is contesting for the post of Secretary. Acharya, the second Chief Minister of the Province 1 and the immediate past Secretary of CPN (UML) was not included among consensus office-bearers floated by Chair KP Sharma Oli to the Presidium of the party.
Election for the post of the Secretary as well as for the post of Chair, Vice-chair and Secretary, among others is taking place late tonight in Sauraha, Chitwan, the venue of the 10th national congress. The election is scheduled to take place from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am, according to the election programme announced by the central election commission.
