Ruling Saenuri lawmakers say outgoing UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly supports a constitutional revision.
Saenuri Representative Lee Jong-bae and two other lawmakers met with Ban, who is a potential contender to replace President Park Geun-hye, last week in the United States.
They say Ban told them if a constitutional revision is not possible before next year's presidential election, it must be realized in the early stage of the next president's term.
Lee quoted the UN chief as saying that the Constitution, last revised in 1987, does not reflect changes over the years and must be amended.
