UNHCR representative calls on NA Chairperson Timilsina

Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Nepal Carolin Spannuth Verma called on National Assembly (NA) Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.

At a meeting held at latter's office at Singhadurbar today, Chairperson Timilsina extended thanks to the UNHCR for its continued efforts for the rights of the refugees and stateless people across the globe.

As many as 113,500 Bhutanese refugees have been resettled in other eight countries, Timilsina said, adding, "I would like to thank the UNHCR for its role to that end".

There are still 19,000 refugees in Nepal, he said, adding the UNHCR has definitely laid emphasis in addressing their issues.

On the occasion, UNHCR representative Verma also lauded the Nepal government's positive role in the management of refugees and extended thanks for treating refugees equally in the services of education and health. ---
