The first general convention of the Vijaya Foundation Nepal (VFN)–a philanthropic organization based in Gaindakot municipality-8, Nawalpur – has elected a new leadership with Trilochan Sapkota as its chair for a three-year term.
Among others elected in the newly-formed seven-member executive committee are Som Prasad Kapri (Secretary), Dinesh Sharma (Treasurer), Basanta Raj Lamsal, Khem Raj Sapkota, Laxmi Gautam and Dr Govinda Kandel (Members), shared Election Coordinator Om Prasad Sapkota.
VFN is a member-based social innovation to supplement and amplify humanitarian and philanthropic works in the field of health, education and human rights. Established by Vijaya Development Resource Center (VDRC-Nepal) in 2016, the VFN aims to contribute to transform the lives of weaker section of the society through sustained funding, mainly in its thematic areas, said Keshab Prasad Sapkota, one of its founder.
Its objectives are to explore helping hands at home and abroad to raise funds, champion the new initiatives on social responsibility and services and offer small grant to civil society organizations to work in the designated themes.
Newly-elected chair Sapkota shared the Foundation works through its approach of 'Nepali mann, Nepali dhan, Nepali pan'. He informed that VFN has recently brought out a book 'Yatra Nirantar (Unrelenting Journey)' penned by social and political activist Tilak Prasad Sapkota. The 508-page diary-based writing of Sapkota has captured detailed account of his struggle, including jail life for democracy, 13-year-long untiring leadership for the construction of a local irrigation canal and catalytic role for the expansion of social capital through the establishment of citizens' organizations, schools, college and temple.
