Chief Secretary Bairagi instructs to make revenue investigation technology-friendly

Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi has instructed the Department of Revenue Investigation to make the investigation more technology-friendly.

Addressing the review meeting of the Department here on Friday, Chief Secretary Bairagi directed the Department to pay attention on issues such as law, rules, and reforms in procedure, coordination, capacity building, monitoring, report and mass media.

Similarly, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Bharatmani Subedi underscored inter-agency involvement and coordination to curb revenue leakages and the foreign exchange irregularities.

In the meeting attended by the representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Customs, Department of Inland Revenue and security officials as well as private sector, Director General at Department of Revenue, Ram Prasad Acharya, expressed his regard to the private sector in their support to enforce Vehicle and Consignment Tracking System (VCTS).

He pledged to continue to make investigation more effective in coordination and collaboration among the related agencies to control revenue leakages and foreign exchange irregularities.

Likewise, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Rameshwor Dangal asserted that investigation officials should be clear on differentiating what was crime and what was not and focus on their investigation accordingly.

He also urged the investigation officials to study the courts’ verdicts and to devise and update their investigation strategies accordingly.

Representatives from Nepal Chamber of Commerce, and Confederation of the Nepalese Industries among others suggested the Department of Revenue Investigation to investigate the cases of revenue leakages in such a manner that it does not tarnish the image of the businesspersons.

During the programme, presentations and discussions were held on the issues presented by the four offices under the Department.
