16 Student Associations Urge Government to Enact Student-Friendly Education Act

Kathmandu: Sixteen different organizations have demanded the government to issue a student-friendly School Education Act immediately. Submitting a memorandum to Ammar Bahadur Thapa, the President of the Health, Education, and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives, they criticized the government for ignoring students’ issues in the bill despite frequent commitments to enact the School Education Act.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the student organizations have also called for the school teachers’ appointment process to be inclusive and for teachers to be appointed through a fully open competition. They emphasized the importance of forwarding the bill only after conducting all-side talks and discussions with the mandatory participation of student organizations.

The memorandum was signed by representatives from the Nepal Student Union, All Nepal National Free Student Union, All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary), Socialist Student Union, among others.
