160th Birth Anniversary of Yubakavi Motiram Bhatta Observed with Literary Events

Kathmandu: The 160th birth anniversary of Yubakavi (the Youth Poet) Motiram Bhatta is being commemorated today with a series of literary events. Bhatta, born on Kushe Aunsi, which coincides with National Father’s Day in 1923 BS (1866 AD), is celebrated for his significant contributions to Nepali literature despite his short life of 30 years, as he passed away on the same day in 1953 BS (1896 AD).

According to National News Agency Nepal, Bhatta is renowned for immortalizing Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya by publishing his biography. Notably, he introduced the printing press in Nepal, marking a significant development in the country’s literary and journalistic landscape. He also played a pivotal role in incorporating Ghazals into Nepali literature and published the Ramayana of Bhanubhakta in 1941 BS.

Bhatta’s efforts further enriched the Nepali language, making it a more expressive medium for literary works. Among his notable creations are ‘Bhanubhaktako Jeewan Charitra’, ‘Priyadarshika’, and ‘Pikdut’. These works continue to be celebrated for their contributions to the literary heritage of Nepal.

Various literary organizations, including the Nepal Education Council and Nepal Academy, are organizing programs to honor Bhatta’s legacy and celebrate his contributions to Nepali literature on this auspicious day.
