Noakhali: Two school students were killed and another person injured in a road accident on Islamia road under Sadar upazila here this morning. The deceased were identified as Ashma Begum, 6, daughter of Saddam Hossen from Naijjer Vangti village, and M Arafat, 5, son of Abul Kalam from Faridabad village of the same union. Both children were attending class two at a local Quality Education School.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local people reported that Abul Kalam was taking his son Arafat and his brother-in-law’s daughter Ashma to school on a bicycle when a Natunhat-bound truck struck them. The accident occurred in front of Bhuiyan Bari near Baikunthupur bazaar around 8:30 am, resulting in the immediate death of the two children.
Critically injured, Abul Kalam was rescued by local residents and admitted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. Police have seized the truck involved in the accident, but the driver managed to escape, said Officer in Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station Kamrul Islam.
