222 Prisoners Return to Nawalparasi Prison After Gen-Z Protests

Nawalparasi: Prisoners who escaped from Nawalparasi prison during the nationwide Gen-Z protests are continuing to make their way back to the facility.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Jailer Bikal Shrestha reported that 222 out of the 546 prisoners who fled on September 9 have returned. The escape occurred when prisoners overpowered the prison’s security. Despite the chaos, 17 men and 12 women opted not to escape.

Jailer Shrestha mentioned that a notice was issued urging prisoners to return, leading to a steady stream of returnees. Meanwhile, among those who escaped, 40 are identified as Indian citizens, and one has already returned to Nawalparasi Prison.

Additionally, Jailer Shrestha noted that 13 prisoners from Nawalparasi have transferred to other facilities across the country, while six prisoners from other prisons have arrived at Nawalparasi. He also highlighted that two Moroccans and one South African who escaped from the Central Prison are now housed at Nawalparasi Prison.
