3 UP Chairmen Sent to Jail in Arson, Vandalism Case in Jhenaidah


Jhenaidah: A court here today sent three UP chairmen to jail in an arson attack and vandalism case in the district. After the completion of their High Court bail, they were produced before the lower court this morning, and the court of District Sessions Judge Emran Hosne Chowdhury ordered them to be sent to jail.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accused are Nazruddin, chairman of Sadhuhati union of Sadar upazila; Sarajul Karim Saraj, chairman of Kumrabaria union; and Abdullah Al Masum, ex-chairman of Harisankarpur union of the upazila. The allegations stem from events connected to the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4.



Case documents reveal that during the movement, Awami League leaders and activists organized an armed procession in the district town. Subsequently, they launched an attack on the district BNP office and the residence of the district BNP president. As a result, both the district BNP office and the home of district BNP president Advocate MA Majid were set ablaze and vandalized.



Following the incident, Shakib Ahmed Bappi, the district BNP deputy office secretary, filed a case implicating 468 individuals in connection with the attack and vandalism.
