Kathmandu: With the beginning of Tihar, the second biggest festival of Nepal, the number of people leaving the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate in their home districts has surged.
According to National News Agency Nepal, 44,509 individuals have departed while 31,012 have entered the Valley through various checkpoints, as reported by Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police at the Traffic Police Office. The data shared by the Valley Traffic Police Office highlights that the Nagdhunga checkpoint is the busiest, with 18,920 passengers exiting the Valley from this point. Additionally, other checkpoints such as Thankot, Tinpiple, and Sankhu have seen 285, 845, and 692 departures respectively.
Spokesperson Subedi also noted that a special traffic management plan has been put in place to minimize incidents during the festival period. This plan aims to reduce traffic jams, vehicle accidents, and issues of fraud that passengers may encounter.
