Book Based on Life of Renowned Artiste KK Karmacharya Unveiled.


Kathmandu: The book ‘Hiloma Phuleko Phool’ (Flower Bloomed in Mud), chronicling the life and accomplishments of esteemed artiste KK Karmacharya, was officially launched during a program held on Saturday. The event witnessed the presence of senior artist Hari Prasad Sharma, former ministers Shankar Prasad Koirala and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, and other notable personalities, who collectively released the biography written by Bijay Raj Acharya.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the book highlights the significant contributions of 76-year-old Karmacharya, who has been a prominent figure in the field of fine arts for over six decades. Karmacharya has previously held the position of Chancellor at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

During the event organized by the Nepal Bal Sahitya Samaj, senior artist Sharma expressed concerns over the lack of state support for art development and promotion. NAFA’s Chancellor Naradmani Hartamchhali noted that this biography serves as a commendable effort in acknowledgin
g the artist’s societal contributions.

Former minister and litterateur Gyawali reflected on Karmacharya’s influence in social awakening and promoting national unity through his artistic endeavors. Litterateur Koirala emphasized the importance of publicizing the stories of individuals who have made significant societal contributions, while Panta stressed the need to educate future generations about the cultural and historical value of artworks.

On the occasion, Karmacharya shared personal stories and experiences from his childhood that fueled his passion for fine arts and sculpture. Pramod Pradhan, Chairperson of Nepal Bal Sahitya Samaj, underscored the importance of children’s literature in bridging art and literature, while writer Acharya described the opportunity to document Karmacharya’s life as significant.

NAFA’s member-secretary Devendra Thumkeli acknowledged the publication as an honor to the artistic community. Senior writer and scholar Jivendra Dev Giri mentioned that the book provides an understa
nding of the contemporary issues and events that influenced Karmacharya’s career and life.

Literary figure Mukesh Malla commented on the potential of linking art and literature to enhance the quality of work in both fields. Karmacharya initially began his career in drama before transitioning to fine arts, where he has designed over 600 postal stamps, illustrated numerous children’s books, and designed thousands of book covers.
