Local Level By-Elections Scheduled for December 1 Across Nepal.


Kathmandu: By-elections are set to take place at various local levels across Nepal to fill 44 vacant posts. These positions have remained unoccupied due to multiple reasons, and elections are scheduled for December 1 to address this gap. Posts up for election include two district coordination committee chiefs, two rural municipality chairpersons, four vice-chairpersons, one mayor, one deputy mayor, and 34 ward chairs.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the National Election Commission has announced that by-elections will be held for the district coordination committee chiefs in Okhaldhunga and Kailali. Additionally, the mayoral position in Kirtipur municipality of Kathmandu and the deputy mayoral position in Nalgad municipality of Jajarkot are also up for election. Furthermore, rural municipality chairperson positions in Gramthan, Morang; Mahabu, Dailekh; Gaurishankar, Dolakha; Sarkegad, Humla; and Swamikartik Khapar, Bajura will be contested.

The by-elections will also cover several ward chairperson
roles. These include positions in Siriganga Rural Municipality-3, Taplejung; Kankai Municipality-6, Jhapa; Laligurans Municipality-8, Tehrathum; Gadhi Rural Municipality-6, Sunsari; and Molung Rural Municipality-5, Okhaldhunga, among others. Other notable locations include Triyuga Municipality, Udayapur; Belka Municipality-9; Dakneshwari Municipality-1 and 4, Saptari; and Dhanushadham Municipality-1, Dhanusha.

Further positions include ward chairs for Ramgopalpur Municipality-2, Mahottari; Ishnath Municipality-7, Rautahat; Rajpur Municipality-6; and Gadhimai Municipality-8. Information Officer Suman Ghimire of the Election Commission mentioned that elections will also occur in ward no. 1 and 4 of Kirtipur municipality, Kathmandu; ward no. 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City; and several other wards across Nuwakot, Makawanpur, Gorkha, Gulmi, Rolpa, Bardiya, Rukum (East), and Kapilvastu.

Three Arrested with 5.7-kg Gold from Airport.



Kathmandu: Three persons have been arrested from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in possession of 5.7-kg gold. A Chinese national and two Myanmar citizens who arrived in Kathmandu from Sharjah via an Air Arabia flight were arrested on Tuesday evening.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Office of the Armed Police Force Nepal TIA confirmed the arrests. The individuals were taken into custody upon their arrival at the airport, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway. Authorities are holding the accused at the TIA Customs Office as they continue their inquiry into the matter.
