Industry Minister Bhandari Engages in Bilateral Talks with Indian Minister on Trade and Standards.


New Delhi: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, recently met with Pralhad Joshi, India’s Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, during his official visit to India. The meeting took place on Wednesday evening at Minister Joshi’s office in New Delhi, where the two ministers engaged in discussions centered around bilateral interests, particularly focusing on the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) certification for Nepali companies and the facilitation of essential food grain imports, such as wheat, rice, and sugar.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Bhandari emphasized the importance of easing the importation of essential commodities from India into Nepal. Tarka Raj Bhatt, Under-Secretary at the Ministry and part of Minister Bhandari’s delegation, mentioned that the discussions on this topic were received positively. Furthermore, Minister Bhandari highlighted the necessity of facilitating the export and marketing of Nepali
products in India, aiming to enhance trade relations between the two neighboring countries.

Additionally, the ministers discussed potential collaboration between the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology. This collaboration is expected to streamline product certification processes and improve the trade of goods between the two nations, fostering a stronger economic partnership.
