Home Minister Reaffirms Zero Tolerance Stance on Violence Against Women.


Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has asserted that no violence against women (VAW) will be tolerated. He made this declaration while receiving a memorandum from 26 local civil society organizations at the Ministry of Home Affairs, in the context of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. On this occasion, Home Minister Lekhak emphasized the government’s commitment to ending all forms of violence against women.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Home Minister expressed his concern over the safety of women in foreign employment, stating that government apparatuses are actively working to protect women from exploitation and mistreatment. He also highlighted the increasing abuse women face through social media and digital platforms, urging for criticism and expression of views to be conducted in a courteous manner. Initiatives are underway to curb hate comments and digital abuse.

The Home Minister also mentioned that the Ministry is preparing to present the Integrated Election Bil
l in the upcoming parliamentary session. This Bill aims to ensure proportional representation, in line with the constitutional spirit. The 26 organizations, including Kopila Nepal, Biswas Nepal, and Jagriti Mahila Mahasangh, presented a 16-point memorandum calling for an end to caste-based discrimination, abuse, and all forms of violence.
