Jahangir Dubs Canada as Tested Friend of Bangladesh


Dhaka: Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today emphasized the enduring friendship between Canada and Bangladesh, highlighting that Canada has been a reliable ally for over fifty years. He remarked on the close ties that extend beyond governmental relations to include institutional and interpersonal connections. The remarks were made during a courtesy call by a Canadian delegation led by High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh at the Secretariat.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser expressed Bangladesh’s hope for increased cooperation with Canada in several areas, notably agriculture. The meeting involved discussions on a range of topics, including food and crop imports, the application of information technology in agriculture, higher education for agriculturists, food security, the Rohingya situation, and Bangladesh’s law and order scenario.



The Canadian High Commissioner conveyed his country’s willingness to support Bangladesh’s food security efforts. He outlined potential areas of assistance such as the export of fertilizers and the provision of vaccines for the dairy and poultry industries, to which the adviser responded positively.



The Rohingya crisis was also addressed, with the adviser expressing gratitude to Canada for its support and urging the country to consider offering refuge to more Rohingyas. Among the attendees were Counselor of the Canadian High Commission Debra Boyce, Counselor (Political) Marcus Devies, and officials from Bangladesh’s agriculture ministry.
