Dhaka: A delegation of Human Rights Watch (HRW), led by Elaine Pearson, Asia Director of the well-known human rights group, met with Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, the head of the Disappearance Commission, at its office today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting with the HRW two-member delegation at the commission’s Gulshan office, Justice Chowdhury welcomed them and briefed them on the commission’s activities. The HRW representatives expressed concern after hearing accounts of human rights violations in Bangladesh. They emphasized the need for proper investigations and justice for cases of enforced disappearances, human rights abuses, and extrajudicial killings.
The HRW delegation, which arrived on January 26, will stay in Bangladesh until January 30. The meeting was part of their ongoing engagements with various stakeholders in the country.
