BNP to Welcome New Political Party of Students: Fakhrul

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the BNP will welcome a new political party formed by students. “Students will form a new political party and enter politics. We will welcome them. They will try to reach out to the people with their new ideas, but if they form a party remaining within the government, the country’s people will not accept it,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BNP secretary general made these remarks while attending a Doa Mahfil, a prayer event for the quick recovery of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The event was held in the capital’s Uttara Sector-13 playground, organized by Dhaka City North BNP joint convener Afaz Uddin Afaz, where gifts were distributed among destitute people.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir encouraged the students by saying, “You (students) will form a party. We will welcome you, cooperate with you. We will work shoulder to shoulder to hold a free and fair election.” He requested the students to refrain from making derogatory remarks, emphasizing the importance of avoiding unnecessary conflicts in politics.

He further commented on the political climate, mentioning that the absence of Hasina has created an opportunity for peaceful dialogue. “Now, we’re free from Hasina. But our goal is to return to a democratic system, but so far we have not been able to return to that democracy,” he added.

Addressing the current government’s status, the BNP secretary general described it as an interim government, tasked with rectifying the damages caused by Hasina’s administration. “They (incumbent government) will hold elections by fixing these to a minimum level through reform . . . and at the election, people will vote and bring someone to power those they want,” he concluded.

The event was also attended by Dhaka City North BNP Convener Md. Aminul Haque, member secretary Haji Mostafa Zaman, senior joint convener Mostafizur Rahman Segun, joint convener SM Jahangir, among others.
