Dhaka: The government has introduced a new logo for the Department of Prisons, reflecting its mission and vision. The change comes as part of an effort to better align the department’s emblem with its objectives, as stated by the Additional Inspector General of Prisons, Col Mohammad Mustafa Kamal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the new logo features a baton and key, replacing the previous design that included a boat. The baton symbolizes discipline and safety for prison inmates, while the key represents a path of light for prisoners. The previous logo incorporated a jute leaf at the top and a water lily with a boat in the middle. These elements have now been replaced to better reflect the department’s mission and vision.
The decision to update the logo is consistent with practices observed in prison authorities worldwide, where logos typically reflect their missions and visions. The government has issued an order mandating the use of the new logo, following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to replace the previous design.
The Department of Prisons’ vision is encapsulated in the phrase “Rakhib Nirapad, Dekhabo Alor Parth” (Keep safe and show the path of light). Its mission focuses on ensuring the safe detention of prisoners, maintaining strict security and order, treating inmates humanely, and providing necessary rehabilitation services to reintegrate them as good citizens into society.
