Dhaka: The Public Administration Reform Commission (PARC) has proposed a significant change to the current retirement policy, recommending that government employees be allowed to opt for voluntary retirement with full benefits after completing 15 years of service, as opposed to the current requirement of 25 years.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the PARC report, which was submitted to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, suggests that this change would provide an exit route for public employees who wish to pursue different career paths. The report states, “It is recommended that public employees be allowed to retire with all benefits after 15 years of service. This will provide an exit route for ones who choose to change their career.”
The commission, led by Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, former secretary to the government, also recommended the removal of Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018. This section currently allows the government to enforce compulsory retirement on any employee after 25 years of service if deemed necessary. The report was officially presented to the Chief Adviser at State Guest House Jamuna by the commission’s chairman and members.
