Dhaka: The Department of Environment (DoE) has urged the city dwellers to wear face masks when going outside as Dhaka’s air quality index (AQI) has already reached a hazardous level.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the air quality index in the city reached over 250 this morning, prompting the DoE to issue an advisory for city residents to wear face masks when outdoors. The advisory aims to mitigate health risks associated with exposure to poor air quality.
Simultaneously, the DoE has advised sensitive groups, including the ailing, elderly, and children, to remain indoors unless necessary. The advisory highlights the increased vulnerability of these groups to adverse health effects from air pollution.
The environmental authority noted that the air quality index is subject to hourly changes, often reaching very unhealthy levels during the dry season. The DoE’s statement emphasizes the need for city dwellers to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their health.
