Reform Commission Proposes Forming Cumilla, Faridpur Divisions

Dhaka: The Public Administration Reform Commission has put forward a proposal to form two additional divisions, Cumilla and Faridpur, in the country. This announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder during a media briefing held at the State Guest House Jamuna.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the proposal was revealed after Judiciary Reform Commission Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman and Public Administration Reform Commission Chairman Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury submitted their respective reports to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The occasion was attended by members of both commissions.

Azad shared that the Public Administration Reform Commission has also recommended reducing the number of ministries and divisions to 25 and 40, respectively, to enhance governance. The commission further suggested restructuring the country into four provinces to facilitate administrative and political decentralization.

Additionally, the commission proposed changes to official titles, recommending that the post ‘Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO)’ be renamed to ‘Sub-District Commissioner (SDC)’, and ‘District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner’ to ‘District Magistrate and District Commissioner’.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir, and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad were also present at the press briefing.
