Jhenidah: A sharing and orientation workshop on the ‘formation of a national referral system for the protection and assistance to human trafficking victims’ was held today at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here. Chaired by DC Md Abdul Awal, the session featured Joint Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry Md Jasim Uddin Khan attending virtually as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop included addresses from various officials and representatives, such as Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Rathindra Nath Ray, Additional District Magistrate Khalid Hassan Siddique, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saifur Rahman, and police officer Jahirul Islam. NGO representatives KM Masud Ali, Mrinmoy Mahajon, Adv Md Rafiqul Alam, and Sharifa Khatun were also present, along with Asif Kajol, president of Jhenidah Press Club, Mizanur Rahman Babul, president of the district press club, and human rights activist Abdur Rahman.
The event saw participation from a substantial number of local government officials, NGO activists, journalists, human rights activists, Imams, teachers, and representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement. Organized by the Jhenidah district administration, the workshop was facilitated by ‘Asshas,’ a project of the Dhaka Ahsania Mission.
Speakers at the workshop urged for the effective implementation of laws related to human trafficking. They also highlighted the importance of forming a national referral system, which would include data from service-providing organizations and detailed information on trafficked victims.
