Rangpur: Police arrested Sohel Rana Soni, a member of the Rangpur district Awami League convening committee and a former central leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sohel Rana Soni was apprehended from the Babupara Ashratpur area of the city on Thursday evening. The arrest was confirmed by Md Shah Alam, Station Officer-in-Charge of Tajhat police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), at 8:35 pm. Soni had been in hiding since August 5, with multiple criminal cases pending against him.
Soni’s arrest is linked to a case filed by Omar Farooq, who was critically injured in police firing during the anti-discrimination student movement in the city on July 19. The officer added that Soni would be presented before a Rangpur court tomorrow.
