Dhaka: A total of 98 new books hit the stalls of Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2025 today, marking the 5th day of the event which began on February 1.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the newly published collection includes 13 stories, 18 novels, six essays, 33 poems, and four research works. Additionally, two children’s literature books, two biographies, one essay, three plays, two science books, one travel narrative, two history books, two politics-themed books, one treatment/health guide, one language book, one religious text, and one translation were showcased in the stalls.
A discussion titled ‘Hosseinuddin Hossain: Prantobasi Biral Sahitya Sadhok’ took place at the main stage of the book fair. Litterateur Shahid Iqbal presided over the discussion while litterateur Ahmed Mawla presented an article. Shahid Iqbal highlighted Hosseinuddin Hossain’s extraordinary contributions to literature, noting that although he began his career with poetry, he significantly impacted prose writing.

chi Monch’, poet Rezauddin Stalin and writer Shibli Azad discussed their new books. A cultural program featured poetry recitations by poets Atahar Khan and Alamgir Hussain, while the evening’s cultural segment included musical performances by artists such as Bulbul Islam, Md Arifur Rahman, Taposi Roy, Papri Barua, Farah Hasan Moutushi, Md Harunur Rashid, Kamal Ahmed, and Nusrat Binte Noor.
This year, the fair hosts 99 stalls on the premises of Bangla Academy and 609 stalls at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. A total of 708 publishers are participating, compared to 642 last year. Visitors can attend the fair from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily, with extended hours from 11:00 am on holidays.
The fair also features 37 pavilions, with one at Bangla Academy and 36 at Suhrawardy Udyan. A space for little magazines has been set up near the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan. The theme for this year’s book fair is “July Gono Obbhuthyan: Notun Bangladesh Binirman” (The July Uprising: Rebuilding a New Bangladesh).
