Madaripur: A touchstone idol of Lord Vishnu has been recovered from Debraj village in Madaripur Sadar upazila. Being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and recovered the idol weighing 19 kg from the house of Yakub Ali Sheikh of the village around 6 pm on Wednesday, said Sadar Police Station Inspector Mahmudul Hasan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yakub Ali found the idol while digging his pond. The idol, which is made of touchstone, is considered to hold significant historical value. The local authorities are taking steps to ensure its preservation.
Inspector Mahmudul Hasan mentioned that the idol would be handed over to the Department of Archaeology following legal procedures. This recovery has sparked interest among local residents and authorities, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage.
