Kathmandu: The 11th Nepal Geological Congress, organized by the Nepal Geological Society, has commenced in Kathmandu. President Ramchandra Paudel inaugurated the two-day event, which aims to facilitate discussions among geologists from various countries on the topic of earth’s safety.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the conference is designed to emphasize the importance of geology in climate change adaptation, natural resource utilization, and geo-risk management. It also aims to provide a platform for exchanging new research, technologies, and experiences within the geology sector.
Society Chairperson Churna Bahadur Wali mentioned that the congress would serve as a medium for sharing knowledge related to climate change impacts, natural resource management, and disaster management. He highlighted the increasing impacts of climate change and the need for collaboration in identifying problems and implementing climate adaptation and reduction programs.
The congress sees participation from geologists representing Nepal, India, China, the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. More than 100 working papers focusing on the geology of the Himalayan region are expected to be presented, with extensive discussions on geological studies and research. Professor Khum Narayan Poudel, the Congress Coordinator, noted that the event is organized biennially.
