Kathmandu: The secretariat meeting of the CPN (UML) held on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen the democratic system while reviewing a decade-long period of the constitution’s implementation. UML’s Assistant Secretary General Pradip Gyawali stated that the meeting has decided to remain firm on the Constitution of Nepal and the achievements like a federal democratic republic, inclusive system, and social justice institutionalized by this constitution.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the UML has expressed its serious concern over recent anti-republic and anti-constitutional activities. The party has concluded that any attempts to subvert the people’s verdict and steer the country’s political course onto a regressive track will not be tolerated. The UML emphasized that the democratic republic system is the culmination of the Nepali people’s seven-decade-long struggle, established through the historic Constituent Assembly, which concluded that monarchy and democracy cannot coexist due to the monarchy’s totalitarian tendencies and its history of undermining people’s rights.
The UML observed significant achievements in physical infrastructure, social sector, people’s livelihood, and international relations within a short span of time since the establishment of the republic system. UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the meeting, providing insights into contemporary political issues and the government’s performance.
