Kathmandu: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has announced that housing will be provided to the residents of Bagmati and Koshi provinces, which faced devastation due to floods last September. After the 30th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee, Lekhak stated that both permanent and temporary shelters would be constructed based on the necessity, following an assessment of the damage caused by floods, landslides, and inundation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the minister emphasized that decisions regarding state assistance for the construction of private houses would rely on the specific conditions in the affected areas. The meeting highlighted the need for concerned bodies to prepare for all types of disaster risks in the future and the importance of coordinated efforts among government agencies.
Home Minister Lekhak noted that offices have been set up in the districts of Doti, Achham, and Jajarkot to gather comprehensive data on earthquake damage and to facilitate reconstruction efforts and victim assistance. He mentioned that the construction of permanent houses has commenced in areas where damage assessments have been completed. Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, and other senior government officials attended the meeting.
