Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has declared that there is no possibility of the return of monarchy in Nepal. Addressing a programme organised by the Training Department of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Committee, Deuba responded to recent activities by pro-monarchists, stating that former King Gyanendra Shah is not suitable to be a constitutional monarch.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Deuba remarked that Gyanendra could not serve as a constitutional king and suggested that the Rastriya Prajatantra Party might consider making him the party president instead. He made these statements during the inauguration of a training programme for the office-bearers and members of the NC Province Working Committee.
Deuba further advised former King Gyanendra to form a political party if he is genuinely interested in politics. He warned that those who join such a party may face difficulties and urged his party members to work in unity to support the republic.
The training programme was presided over by NC Bagmati Province Vice-President and Province Training Department Chief Chandra Maharjan. The event was attended by various party leaders, including spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, NC Bagmati Province President Indra Bahadur Baniya, Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, Treasurer Dr Bhadra Parajuli Bhandari, and Dr Buddhiman Shrestha, among other office-bearers.
