Biratnagar: General Secretary of CPN (UML) Shankar Pokhrel has stated that the people of Nepal will not revert to a regressive system, describing the current republican system as progressive. Pokhrel emphasized this during the inauguration of the 10th national conference of Press Chautari Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokhrel highlighted the formation of the current government through the alliance of two major political parties, stressing that it was established to serve the interests of the people. He indicated that the collaboration between these parties aims to bring about political stability and provide solutions to pressing national issues.
Pokhrel pointed out that during the one-party Panchayat-era, citizens were denied their fundamental rights. He noted that Nepal has now embarked on a path of nation-building, with improvements in critical areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and essential services.
Addressing the journalists present, Pokhrel urged them to report based on facts, emphasizing the importance of an uncensored media in a democratic system. However, he also warned that democracy should not be used as a shield for misconduct. Pokhrel cautioned that any crisis in democracy could lead to the suffering of citizens.
