Kathmandu: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery through the introduction of the Good Governance Promotion Act. The bill aims to amend existing laws identified as obstacles to promoting good governance and effective public service delivery in Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung, serving as the government spokesperson, addressed the National Assembly to clarify the intent behind the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Promotion of Good Governance and Public Service Delivery. The bill, which has been presented as a priority in the National Assembly, seeks to reform several legislative acts to streamline services and improve governance.
Minister Gurung assured lawmakers of the bill’s potential to significantly enhance service delivery, emphasizing the necessity of its provisions and urging the support of the Federal Parliament’s upper house. He highlighted that the bill’s passage is crucial for addressing the current demands for good governance and efficient public service delivery.
During the assembly session, several lawmakers, including Dr. Beduram Bhusal and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, participated in the discussions surrounding the bill’s principles. These discussions are part of the broader legislative process, wherein Minister Gurung presented the proposal on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Despite progress, the bill faced opposition from the main opposition party, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), which argued against the bill’s introduction as it was not presented as a replacement bill. Nevertheless, the National Assembly approved the proposal to consider the bill by a majority vote.
National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal announced that lawmakers wishing to propose amendments could submit their proposals to the Bill Section of the Assembly, paving the way for further legislative actions and potential modifications to the bill.
