Water Resources Bill, 2081 BS Endorsed by Infrastructure Development Committee


Kathmandu: The Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) has unanimously endorsed the Water Resources Bill, 2081. The 48th meeting of the Committee, held at Singha Durbar, was attended by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, who witnessed the unanimous passing of the bill.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the bill was introduced to ensure the sustainable development, use, protection, and management of water resources. It aims to distribute benefits equitably, mitigate weather and water-induced disasters, and ensure the safety of dams. Minister Khadka highlighted that the bill was a matter of public concern and was approved following rigorous discussion and hard work.



Minister Chaurasiya also expressed the Ministry of Law’s commitment to adhere to the lawmakers’ decision. The bill, which was tabled in the HoR on June 28, 2024, was forwarded to the Infrastructure Development Committee for clause-wise discussion on July 9.
