Kathmandu: The government has appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). This decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers, as announced by Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson, Prithvi Subba Gurung, during a press conference.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the cabinet meeting also approved several other key decisions. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to Thailand from April 1-5 was sanctioned, where he will attend the Sixth BIMSTEC Summit. Additionally, a search committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has been formed to propose candidates for the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank. The committee includes former Governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai and Economist Bishow Poudel as members.
Minister Gurung further revealed that the cabinet meeting decided to establish a Commerce Bench at the Rajbiraj Bench of the High Court, Janakpur. A search committee has also been established for appointing the Chairperson and Members of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and Truth and Reconciliation Commission, led by former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra.
The meeting approved Election Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar’s visit to Australia for the Canberra Fellowship Programme from May 25 to June 1, 2025. Moreover, it sanctioned the participation of a Nepali delegation, led by Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary, in the Joint Working Group on the 13th Meeting of Broader Management in Pokhara from March 27-28.
The cabinet also appointed Joint Secretary Bindeshwor Prasad Lekhak as the Consul-General to the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong. Decisions were made regarding the promotion and transfer of some Nepal Army generals, and it approved Health and Population Minister Pradip Paudel’s participation in Global Health Week in Abu Dhabi from April 15-17.
In addition, the government promoted Birendra Kumar Yadav to the post of secretary, appointing him as the Principal Secretary of the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Karnali Province.
