Gandaki Province: Eight projects worth Rs 215.4 million are being implemented in the current fiscal year 2081/082 BS in the districts of Gandaki Province under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. The projects are aimed at controlling river inundation and protecting human settlements on the banks of the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Ministry’s Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office, Kaski, is responsible for implementing these projects, while others are in the contract bidding process. Project Chief Bidur Shrestha stated that gabion walls are being constructed to protect settlements in the Beni, Singja, Tatopani, Kushma Municipality, and Jaljala Rural Municipality of Myagdi and Parbat districts from the potential threats posed by the Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers.
Project Engineer Narjung Gurung elaborated that a gabion wall is being developed on the bank of the Myagdi river at Tatopani in Beni Municipality-4, with another one at Darbar in Malika Rural Municipality-6. Additionally, gabion walls are under construction at Singha and Surkemlea in Beni-4. The overarching aim of the project is to mitigate the impacts of river inundation in Beni and its surrounding areas.
