Birgunj: The District Administration Office in Parsa has announced an extension of the curfew in Birgunj Metropolitan City and its surrounding areas as a measure to maintain law and order in the district. The curfew, which is now extended from 12 noon until midnight, aims to address the unrest following recent clashes.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief District Officer of Parsa District, Ganesh Aryal, confirmed that the curfew period has been extended until midnight. The curfew was initially enforced from 7:30 pm on Saturday to restore order after clashes erupted between Hindu and Muslim groups during a religious procession celebrating Hanuman Jayanti.
In response to the tensions, an all-party meeting was convened to address the situation. Representatives from various political parties attended the meeting, which called for restraint and urged all parties to avoid activities that could disrupt peace. The meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining social harmony and urged local organizations and communities to refrain from holding rallies and strikes.
The all-party meeting, chaired by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, stressed the need for unity among the diverse religious and cultural communities in the region. The meeting advocated for an equitable society that respects the multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural characteristics of the nation, promoting socio-cultural solidarity and tolerance.
Additionally, the meeting expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of injured security personnel, media members, and the general public. It was decided that the State should provide necessary treatment for those injured in the clashes. Nepali Congress Parsa President Janardan Singh Chhetri also called for peace and social harmony among the people.
