Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader Dr Sekhar Koirala has emphasized the need for the entire party to apply pressure on the leadership to ensure the 15th general convention is held on time. He highlighted the necessity for Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba to be continually reminded, even through social media, about the importance of conducting the convention without delay.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Koirala made these remarks during an interaction organized by the NC district committee in Solukhumbu, focusing on ‘consensus, cooperation, and unity within NC’ held in the federal capital. He stressed that any weakening of the Nepali Congress (NC) would subsequently weaken the entire democratic system, thus underscoring the critical nature of holding the general convention promptly.
Dr Koirala further asserted that the party is in the final stages of preparation for the convention, and any delay or postponement should not be considered. He urged party members to use social media to maintain pressure on the leadership to address this urgent matter. Dr Koirala expressed significant concern over discussions regarding the postponement of the general convention until after the 2084 general election, warning that such a move could cripple the party.
He also pointed out that the party’s discipline committee has fallen victim to internal groupism, which has led to issues such as the lack of recognition for dissenting opinions within the party. Dr Koirala called for the NC President to take proactive steps to strengthen the party organization through unity and cooperation.
