Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted the intellectual and studious nature of late NC leader Pradip Giri during a memorial programme held in his honor. President Deuba recalled his initial meeting with Pradip Giri in Varanasi, India, and shared experiences of being in jail together. He remarked on Giri’s dedication to reading, often through the night.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba expressed that Giri’s untimely departure has left unfinished tasks that require collective efforts to complete. He encouraged leaders and cadres to engage in activities that resonate with the people’s interests and win their hearts.
The memorial programme also featured reflections from other political figures. CPN (UML) General-Secretary Shankar Pokhrel described Giri as a fearless leader. Deputy General-Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Barsha Man Pun expressed admiration for Giri’s articles and books, noting their significant impact. Pun emphasized the continued relevance of Giri’s integrity and ethics in contemporary politics.
Dr. Ghan Shyam Bhusal, General-Secretary of the CPN (Unified Socialist), commended Giri as a genuine socialist leader, lamenting the scarcity of such leaders in current politics. Additional tributes came from Chief Whip of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Rekha Yadav, NC central committee member and President of the School of Democracy, Nain Singh Mahar, and Giri’s wife, Bharati Silwal. They recognized Giri’s profound political thinking and his extensive knowledge of philosophy.
