Rs 638 Million Mountaineering Revenue Collected During Spring Season Climbing


Kathmandu: The number of mountain climbers has been increasing in recent periods.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Department of Tourism reported a total of Rs 638 million in revenue collected from mountaineering expeditions on various mountains and peaks from March 1 to April 21, the spring climbing season of the current fiscal year.



Forty-one individuals, comprising 26 men and 15 women, successfully ascended Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third tallest mountain in the world at 8,556 meters, located in Taplejung during the spring season. This feat contributed Rs 10.97 million in royalty revenue.



Additionally, 66 climbers accomplished their journey to the summit of Mt. Makalu in Sankhuwasabha throughout the season, resulting in the collection of Rs 16.26 million in revenue.



Furthermore, 374 people, including 302 men and 72 women, conquered the world’s tallest mountain, Sagarmatha, during the spring season, generating revenue of Rs 554 million from this climbing activity.



In total, 869 mountaineers, consisting of 678 men and 191 women from both Nepal and other countries, successfully scaled 23 mountains and peaks during the spring climbing season, with a total revenue collection of Rs 638 million, as shared by the Department.
