Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has emphasized the necessity of forming postal service agreements with all countries with which Nepal has established labor pacts. Speaking at an annual progress review meeting of the Department of Postal Services, the Minister highlighted the potential of commercializing postal services through enhanced parcel delivery systems. He pointed out the benefits this would bring to Nepalis residing abroad and emphasized the importance of making parcel delivery more dependable and efficient.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung also urged all local governments to embrace digitalization by transitioning to ‘smart post offices’ through the optimal utilization of information technology, in line with current needs. As the government’s spokesperson, he expressed his readiness to support the construction of necessary infrastructure and provide other assistance required to enhance the postal service’s effectiveness.
Furthermore, Secretary at the Communications Ministry, Radhika Aryal, stated that revisions to acts and laws are underway to modernize the postal service. She expressed commitment to eliminating administrative and managerial hurdles within the postal service. Director General of the Department, Mana Maya Bhattarai, affirmed that efforts are ongoing to make the postal service more advanced. Director of the Department, Dhurba Raj Acharya, provided a briefing on the Department’s activities.
