NC General Secretary Thapa Reminds Farmers’ Issues

Kathmandu: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has emphasized that the leadership elected from the Nepal Farmers’ Association’s general convention should prioritize the interests of farmers over a leader-centric approach. Addressing the fourth central convention of the Nepali Congress’ sister organization, the Nepal Farmers’ Association, Thapa highlighted the importance of advocating for farmers’ rights and addressing their challenges.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Thapa called for the Association to play a significant role in enhancing the national economy by boosting production and productivity, aiming to reduce imports worth over Rs 4 billion. He urged the Association to apply pressure on the government concerning farmers’ issues to drive positive change.

Similarly, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, pointed out that although two-thirds of the population is engaged in agriculture, it only contributes a quarter of the national income. He advocated for modernizing the agricultural sector and increasing productivity through mechanization.

Congress leader and National Assembly Member Krishna Prasad Sitaula expressed that economic improvements in farmers’ lives are crucial for the country’s overall economic prosperity. The coordinator of the Direction Committee of the convention, Ramesh Rijal, appealed to Association members to elect their leadership unanimously, emphasizing unity.
