Saptari: An attempted mass escape from the District Prison in Saptari was successfully prevented by the combined efforts of the Nepali Army and other security agencies. The thwarted escape involved 192 inmates and took place between 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 10, and 6:00 am the following day, as reported in a statement by the Nepali Army.
According to National News Agency Nepal, a separate incident occurred in Chandani, Kanchanpur, where India’s Seema Suraksha Bal (Border Security Force) apprehended seven inmates attempting to cross into Indian territory. These individuals were subsequently handed over to the Nepali Army. Additionally, local residents in another area captured an inmate and handed him over to the Area Police Office, while 12 inmates voluntarily returned to the prison.
In Ramechhap, tensions escalated into a violent clash when inmates demanded their release from confinement. The situation was controlled by the army, who opened fire, resulting in injuries to 12 inmates and the deaths of two.
Furthermore, the Nepali Army managed to safely dispose of a suspicious object discovered in Naya Basti, Ward No. 9 of Banepa, Kavrepalanchok. The army has also recovered a total of 94 firearms from various locations. Additionally, 35 prisoners who had escaped from different prisons in the capital city were recaptured by the army in Gajuri, Dhading.
