Koshi province: The Koshi province government has announced its plan to reconstruct all houses that were damaged and washed away by the recent landslide and flood. This decision was made during a meeting of the Province Disaster Management Council chaired by Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Koshi government has prioritized the immediate reconstruction of homes in the Ilam, Jhapa, and Morang districts, which were the most affected by the disaster. The meeting also resolved to gather details of the damaged houses, initiate construction activities, and recommend the federal government declare seven local levels of the Ilam district as crisis-hit areas.
The responsibility for coordinating relief and rehabilitation efforts in Ilam has been assigned to Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Ram Bahadur Magar, Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Development Bhupendra Rai, and Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Rewati Raman Bhandari. This team is tasked with conducting onsite visits and expediting reconstruction activities.
In Sunsari, Minister for Forest, Tourism and Environment Sadananda Mandal, along with Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Rewati Raman Bhandari, will oversee reconstruction efforts. Meanwhile, in Jhapa district, Minister for Water Supply, Irrigation and Energy Ekraj Karki has been assigned to manage necessary reconstruction and coordination.
The meeting also recommended that the Koshi Province government allocate funds for reconstruction by reducing expenditures from the current budget and plans. The Physical Infrastructure Development Ministry has been directed to mobilize all available resources to ensure immediate action. Chief Minister Karki emphasized the importance of leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of comprehensive reconstruction and relief efforts.
