Commission Sends Back Complaints Against Chair Oli, Leader Lekhak to Nepal Police

Kathmandu: Complaints filed against former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak were sent back to the police administration on Thursday, according to the Commission formed to probe into incidents of Gen-Z protest.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Bigyan Raj Sharma, a member of the Commission formed by the interim government, stated that the complaints were returned to the Kathmandu District Police Range as they do not fall under the Commission’s jurisdiction. This Commission was established to investigate the events that transpired during the Gen-Z protest on September 8 and 9.

Initially, the Kathmandu District Police Range had forwarded the complaints to the Commission without registering them. In a press release issued on Thursday, the Commission outlined its mandate, which includes conducting a factual investigation into physical damages and human casualties during the Gen-Z protests, submitting a report with suggestions after probing the incident’s causes, analyzing information and complaints related to the casualties, and providing necessary opinions regarding actions.

The Commission also emphasized that it is not necessary to wait for its report to conduct a criminal investigation.
