Bhaktapur: CPN (UML) Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed the view that the House of Representatives must be reinstated. At a programme organised by the Bhaktapur District Committee of UML in Gundu today, Chair Oli emphasized that his party supports the reinstatement of the House of Representatives and expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress would also agree.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Oli stated that if the government is to hold elections, it must win the confidence of political parties and ensure everyone’s participation in the electoral process. He highlighted the need for national unity and stability, urging democratic forces to come together to maintain peace and order and to create prosperity. Oli emphasized that the government must create a positive and favourable environment for these objectives.
UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel acknowledged the problems facing the country and emphasized the need to create an environment of unity and consensus. He cautioned against creating disputes within the party. Dr. Rajan Bhattarai, in-charge of UML Bagmati Province Committee, and Politburo member Mahesh Basnet also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of strengthening the UML to defend democracy and the country’s interests.
Following the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, a government was formed under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, the House of Representatives was dissolved, and March 5, 2026, has been set as the date for the election to a new House of Representatives.
