Parsa: The anti-cholera vaccination drive has been launched in Parsa from today. The campaign was initiated by administering medicine to Chief District Officer Toya Narayan Subedi.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief of Child Health and Immunization Service Section, Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, urged the residents of Parsa above the age of one to receive the anti-cholera medication. Parsa has experienced a cholera outbreak and remains at high risk due to flooding from recent rainfall.
Dr. Gautam emphasized the importance of taking the oral medicine without hesitation and urged citizens to maintain clean surroundings and drink purified water. Additionally, Dr. Manoj Kumar Gupta of Narayani Hospital in Birgunj encouraged the public to support the campaign by taking the medicine, noting that it does not have any serious side effects.
The medicine is expected to play a significant role in reducing cholera infections in the district and protecting the population. Cholera cases were first detected in Parsa in mid-August. Public Health Officer at the Health Office, Jayamod Thakur, stated that the campaign aims to administer the anti-cholera medicine to approximately 645,000 people in Parsa. The vaccination drive will continue until October 19.
